Piano Appraisals
Several variables come into play when appraising your piano. Pianos are manufactured using approximately 11,000 parts made of a variety of woods, cloths, felts, irons, brass, and multiple finishes. Environmental elements such as heat, cold, and humidity have different effects on all of these components.
The amount and quality of service provided over the years as well as the amount of usage all play a part in determining the current value of your piano. The value of a piano also varies from location to geographic location. Therefore, the value of your piano can only be established through a physical examination by a trained piano technician in your area.
If you are in the Tulsa area, we will be happy to do an appraisal for you. You will receive a written appraisal after Bill has done the physical examination. Please call our office at 918.299.8863 to schedule an appointment.
What About Insuring My Piano?
If you are having your piano appraised for insurance purposes, you should consider what your insurance company calls "replacement value". You will need to contact a local dealer to obtain the value of a new piano of similar size and finish. If your brand is no longer being manufactured, try to establish, with the dealer, the price of a piano of equal or similar quality, size and finish.
What About My Antique Piano?
There are no "blue books" or established markets for evaluation of pianos. Antique pianos and those with sentimental value are quite similar to other antiques. They do not convert readily into a realistic cash value.
Those that are "one of a kind" manufactured by renowned companies such as Steinway, Chickering, and Mason & Hamlin will command a much higher retail value than a new piano of similar size and finish. Like prized antique autos, pianos do deteriorate. The year 2001 marked the 300th anniversary of the invention of the piano. It is possible that you may have a piano that is 100 or even 200 years old.
The value and condition of these pianos for musical purposes is widely varied. Personal evaluation by an expert is always necessary. The monetary value of these pianos might be better established by a local antique dealer.
Bill is well versed in both areas. If you live in the Tulsa area, please call our office for an appointment at 918.299.8863.
